Togo: Capital Expenditures Up 60% in 2022, YoY

(Togo First) - Togo’s capital expenditures stood at CFA610.8 billion in 2022, up 60% from CFA379.8 billion in 2021. The BCEAO, WAEMU’s Central Bank, recently released the estimates.

The funds were spent by ministries on various projects–infrastructure, energy, and transportation projects, among others–and public grants. The increase in capital expenditures translates Lomé’s commitment to fostering Togo’s economic recovery post-Covid.

Togo's capital expenditures stood at CFA394.2 million in 2020, dipped to CFA379.8 million, and went back up significantly last year.

Overall, State expenditures experienced a similar increase, going from CFA1,139.5 billion in 2021 to CFA1,501.6 billion in 2022, up 31%, according to Central Bank estimates.

Out of all the 'Doing Business’ indicators, Property Registration is where Togo has improved the most since 2018. Indeed, after spending years in the lowest part of this ranking, the country now seeks to beat Rwanda which is the best performer on this index in Africa. To do so, Lomé has been introducing many reforms, with the latest batch implemented this year.
