Togo: New Land Identification System Launches Today!

(Togo First) - In Togo, every land plot will be allocated a Unique Parcel Number (UPN) starting today. The new system is launched today, August 1.

The Office Togolais des Recettes (OTR), the country’s tax office, announced this change as part of reforms to simplify and modernize land procedures. The UPN aims to increase transparency in land management and reduce property disputes by making it easier to trace ownership.

The new system will also streamline administrative processes, meaning that all documents related to a property, such as deeds of sale and leases, will include this number. The OTR stated that "the complete format and management modalities of this number will be popularized at the appropriate time" to ensure effective implementation.

This initiative adds to previous efforts to reduce land conflicts, such as establishing the Guichet Foncier Unique (GFU).
