In Togo, the ministry of trade seeks to help 100 SMEs and SMIs conquer the Asian market

(Togo First) - The Togolese ministry of trade and the International Federation of Consular Chambers for Africa (FICA) are seeking 100 Togolese SMEs and SMIs that will enter the Asian market.

From June 30, the deadline to apply to the program was pushed to July 31 to allow as many firms as possible to submit their applications since only 30 businesses were registered at the time the initial deadline was reached. According to sources close to the ministry of trade, the deadline was extended due to the current health crisis which impaired activities of targeted businesses.

Eligible SMEs and SMIs must operate in the following sectors: agribusiness, services, trading. The project also targets aggregators, and processors, among others.

After moving from the 133rd to 127th place under the 2020 Doing Business’ construction permit index, Togo intends to reiterate this feat in the coming edition of the global ranking. To this end, it has introduced this year multiple reforms.

Owing this performance to multiple reforms aimed at making it easier for businesses to access power and water, Lomé plans to introduce even more reforms this year to keep up its improvements.

Out of all the 'Doing Business’ indicators, Property Registration is where Togo has improved the most since 2018. Indeed, after spending years in the lowest part of this ranking, the country now seeks to beat Rwanda which is the best performer on this index in Africa. To do so, Lomé has been introducing many reforms, with the latest batch implemented this year.
